Wheelset Defects And Re-profiling

Wheelset inspection and gauge is carried out by Ankaray Wheel Lathe Team on km-based examinations. Defects are recorded. Inspection is divided two part.

As a begining visual inspection of wheelsets are carried out and typical defects include flats, cavities, rolling contact fatigue , rollover and pitting. If any of this defects founded in visual inspection , the wheelset send to the wheel lathe for re-profiling. In every re-profiling operation minumum 6 mm cutting from wheel diameter.

If defects not founded in visual inspect, second method is using laser profilemeter. The wheel lathe team using profilemeter for gauging wheel profile. The program is calculating wearing automatically. If the wear is out of limits the wheel sending for lathe.

The flange thickness and height are also measured to determine whether they fall with in allowable limits between 26 mm-32 mm for thickness and 30 mm-34 mm for height.

If the wheel daimeter is measured at such a size which means it cannot be re-profiled - then the wheelset will be scheduled for renewal and new wheelset ordered.
