Wheels up ????

Wheels up ????

First, welcome back to the Compliance Corner?? Newsletter. I know it’s been a while, but as promised, I won’t? top-off anyone’s email box more than once a month! And if we haven’t met yet, thank you for joining me! You can learn a little more about me and my work? here and by watching this short video.

Going global ??

Keeping this short and sweet, I’d like to share some upcoming global events:

The ‘compliance tour’ starts in Berlin.?

With thanks to Kai Fain ,? Georg G??wein , and to the entire DICO - Deutsches Institut für Compliance e.V. team, it's an honor and pleasure to join co-panelists Michaela Ahlberg , Franziska Janorschke and Dr. Thomas Meiers LL.M. (Chicago) ,?along with the moderation of Gernot T?lle during a live (in Berlin ???? at the offices of Dentons ) and live-streamed ?? event on "Compliance as a Leadership Task: International Perspectives."

The event will be on April 19th, 2023, from 15:00 - 17:30 (CET) for the in-person and?live-stream. Also, for those who can join us in Berlin, we will have time for a ‘compliance coffee’ ?? along with some networking, after the discussion!?

Judith Aron will welcome us and introductory remarks will be by Rainer Markfort .

The event will be in English. Some of the discussion points include:

?? The importance of “compliance as a leadership task” and how organizations approach the topic.

?? How can “compliance as a leadership task” be sustainably implemented in an organization?

?? In organizations where compliance is a strategic goal does that result in reducing compliance teams? Is this a threat or a success?

?? What are best practices to help leadership appreciate that “compliance as a leadership task” is critical to setting ethics and compliance expectations in an organization?

?? Does “compliance as a leadership task” result in friction between compliance and business teams, and is that a sign of success ??

Registration and attendance is not limited to DICO members, so we hope you will join us for what is going to certainly be an interactive and lively discussion.?

The link to register for both the live and live-streamed event can be found ?? https://lnkd.in/e5Wg_wuJ

And we are also planning a smaller dinner afterwards ??, so if you are interested in joining us, feel free to email me here as capacity is limited.?

Next stop Amsterdam ????

On Friday,? April 21st, 2023, from 9.30-12.00 (CET), I will participate in an event hosted at the Amsterdam office of AtriCure, Inc. , with co-panelists Geert Vermeulen and Andrea Cardoso (LL.M.) ,? aimed at English-language speakers, based in the Netherlands. The group is called the "Ethics & Compliance Observatory,” and during this first? meeting? of the group ???? we intend to discuss "Ethics & compliance culture during economic uncertainty and in a hybrid work environment.” Capacity is limited, so if you are interested in attending feel free to email me here. Or, if you would like to be on a list for future meetings of the group, feel free to email Geert here.

And looking forward to some canal jogging ?? while visiting, and meeting up with my favorite LRN team, including Ty Francis MBE, CCEP and? Amy Hanan while in Amsterdam. ? ?

Next Stop Copenhagen ????

With thanks to Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) and Cecilia Müller Torbrand, I can't wait to get to Copenhagen ???? in a few weeks, to have a Plenary 'fireside chat' with Cecilia at the MACN Spring Members Meeting (April 26-27) followed by a MACN Members Workshop, where we 'spark' conversations among participants,?on topics including:?

???? Does your organization emphasize values, over policies, rules, and procedures, to motivate employees to do the right thing under difficult circumstances???

????? Are your middle managers engaged when it comes to managing ethics and compliance risks?

???? How can we better support personnel who are working remotely and in isolation??

???? What were the biggest obstacles in improving your Ethics and Compliance program’s impact over the last twelve months???

???? What do you think are the primary drivers of ethical behaviors?? And how can they be integrated into training initiatives??

???? How do you measure the effectiveness of your Ethics and Compliance training?

???? If your front-line teams are not calling you for help and support- do you proactively reach out and engage with them??

???? What kind of KPI’s do you have, or would like to see in your organization, to incentive the right behavior??

It is such an honor to be a part of this event,? and I look forward to seeing friends and colleagues at the Meeting, and to "making the difficult the discussable," with additional thanks to Anna de Vries and her team for all their support ????????????

If you would like more information on the Spring Members Meeting feel free to email ?? [email protected]?

As we wind down our time ? together, I don’t ‘podcast’ ?? much, but I had a great time chatting with the KYC Decoded Podcast host,? and Director of Market Strategy for? 穆迪分析 , Alex Pillow,?and Bill Hauserman, Head of? Moody’s Analytics KYC Industry Practice Team in the Americas, where we discussed a variety of topics. We had a robust exchange of perspectives and experiences,? relating to what it takes to ‘do the right thing’ by third-party risk management - preventing bribery and corruption, and mitigating risk - via a multi-perspective discussion. I hope you can join us for the discussion here on the KYC Decoded Podcast.?

And as for the main image, yes, I am a huge Delta Air Lines airlines fan, rapidly approaching 3,000,000 miles ??, and they have such a wonderful culture and team, with special shout-outs ?? to Dawn Kimmich?and Gerry Tenebruso, ?along with the entire? Delta ground, support,? and air ?? teams which make the “Delta Customer Experience” so enjoyable and memorable.?

Enjoy Delta’s amazing Elite Services using Porsche vehicles. I happen to know the guy who wrote that contract. No company ever was a greater pleasure with which to work than ##DeltaAirLines a truly fine organization. Safe travels always. JF
