WhatsApp? What's That?

Have you heard of WhatsApp? Do you already use it? If you haven't or you don't then you might want to look into it because according to their figures they've just passed 700 million users and it's growing rapidly - more quickly than Facebook did in fact.

WhatsApp is a group messaging system that allows you to connect groups of contacts together and communicate with them via text and video. Many people are using it to group friends together so that they can organise and chat amongst themselves, for example when organising a stag weekend or group event.

Businesses are starting to use the platform for internal communications between groups of staff but also as a quick way to communicate privately with clients or followers (instead of the less private Twitter).

For your business you need to decide if your customers are likely to be using the platform before you bother to spend time on ANOTHER social media platform.

WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app in the UK with half of the iPhones in the UK having it installed.

It's particularly popular with teens as they abandon their Facebook accounts due to the growing popularity of Facebook with their parents! Let's face it, what self respecting teen wants to have their mum comment on their latest selfie?

So if your business targets teens or you have a younger audience that some form of group communication would be useful then it might be worth spending time trying out WhatsApp.

I use for immediate communication between Sales Team. As an exapme, with 2 Digital Sales Execs working out of hours they can access information from whoever can pick up first. Great help for internal communication!
