WhatsApp Is Taking Steps To Make Calls More Secure; Here's What We Know!

Meta, the owners of the messaging platform WhatsApp, has established a new feature that is being put forward to shield your IP address during chats on the app. Have a look at the details below.

WhatsApp’s “Protect IP Address in Calls” Feature-

This unique addition from WhatsApp will divert calls through their servers and conceal your IP address from others who are included in the conversation. In accordance with Meta, this feature provides additional protection for users who prioritize privacy.

Aside from that, all WhatsApp calls will remain end-to-end encrypted which suggests even WhatsApp won't be able to eavesdrop on discussions held by people in a chatroom. This concept is similar to what iOS has implemented in their iPhone models with iOS15 but can be triggered from the Safari settings instead. If you want more details about this matter, check out our article regarding how to mask your IP address while using an iPhone.

You can switch on or off the "Protect IP Address in Calls" setting just by opening the Privacy settings tab and selecting its Advanced choice, although please bear in mind that enabling this option might impact negatively on call quality.

Furthermore, there's another privacy feature recently introduced called 'Silence Unknown Callers', which sends special stripped down silent notifications when contacted by unknown people; likely spam. Thankfully it still displays up in your logs so that you know who tried calling you nevertheless also prevents notifications being sent out if such calls are disregarded; for more information on how to use this setting find it here!

So then, what're your thoughts about these new liberties given by WhatsApp? Can they provide any benefits for you? Let us know in the comments section below!
