What's this new direction Whatsapp is taking?
So far it has positioned itself as a 'serious' app focused on being an alternative to traditional SMS. Remember the old 'No ads, no games, no gimmicks' note of Jan Koum?
Well, all that changes today with the launch of Status - Whatsapp's first foray into Snapchat-Stories-style ephemeral and fun status updates.
I have a feeling this won't end well for Whatsapp.
And a word about Snapchat ... What a product! They changed Instagram, they changed Messenger and now they've changed Whatsapp too.
And Facebook ... their Snapchat mimicry continues. They should've upped the offer beyond $3B in 2014.
