WHAT'S YOUR TITLE?

Question: Why are titles changing so much nowadays. I cannot figure out what anyone really does. "Producer" is now "Experience Designer" and "Account Executive" aka "Salesperson" is "Manager of Customer Experience". I could go on as some of them are really taking some left turns. Thoughts please? Are we just getting a bit too trendy and what's next?

My event job title is from former entertainment and tv experience, but it is often confusing to meeting planners. Production Director is the lead of all departments on site. Team member with the producer who is the client connection and top creative decision maker.

So true. My title has changed four times in my current role. Each time it doesn’t begin to help anyone understand what my colleagues and I really do. And it seems as though the more “flashy” it is, the less it’s understood.

Great topic - would also add in titles that do not match work experience or skill level - ie "Director" with 1-2 years of experience requested and "Supervisor" with 8-10 years experience requested. This seems to vary drastically with NPO vs. corporate. Would be great to set a common language. #eventprofs
