What's your team's turkey?

What's your team's turkey?

It’s just over a week until everyone’s favorite feast!?

No matter which dish you dream about (stuffing for the win!), the main attraction of most Thanksgiving dinners is turkey. Whether it’s roasted, deep fried, or smoked, turkey is the foundation that the rest of your meal is built around.

What’s your team’s “turkey?”

Or in other words, what is the thing that your team does better than everything else?

If you’re a general manager, maybe your team excels at friendly customer service. If you’re on the operations side, maybe your team is outstanding at organization. If you’re a business owner, maybe your turkey is employee retention.

You’ve figured out your “turkey,” now what?

Identifying what your team does best is important for two reasons:?

  1. Determining strengths can help you decide if you want to keep focusing on them. If your “turkey” aligns with what your number one strength should be, then that’s awesome! Keep at it. But if your number one strength is something not quite deserving of top billing, it might be time to re-prioritize.
  2. Identifying your “turkey” is the perfect first step for saying “thank you” to your awesome team that made it possible. No team can succeed without the participation of all members, just like no turkey can be… umm… you get the idea. Specific praise carries much more weight than generic gratitude, so look closer at your team’s turkey to figure out who was responsible for making it so tasty.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a terrific Turkey Day!

Great. Now I'm hungry. Thanks Desmond.

I love the analogy of finding your team's 'turkey'! Just like a Thanksgiving meal, every team has that one special thing they excel at. For us, it's definitely our dedicated, white-glove customer service! ??
