What's Your Point?

What's Your Point?

I have heard this comment before as I have spouted off all the reason I was afraid to do something that was out of my comfort zone. And it stung!

"What's your point?"

This is a phrase that at the time I did not want to hear, but needed to hear. I was fortunate enough to have those alignments in my life that did not allow for me to dismiss a chance because of a perceived fear. They pushed me because believed in me. They pushed me because they understood that if I did not I would regret losing the chance.

And they were right. What's the point of being afraid?

Understandably, fear is hard wired in our primitive brain to keep us safe in certain circumstances. Otherwise what's the point of being afraid?

Here are three points to getting past your fear and taking the risk.

  1. Alignments - these are the trusted people in your inner circle that will give you an honest answer to the questions you have about the risk. They are the ones that will help you and support you as you take the risk.
  2. Calculated - you do not have to be good at math to take the risk and overcome fear. You simply have to play out the pros and cons. The risk and reward. And the benefit versus the regret. Add up the balance between the two and move forward.
  3. Experience - if not your own experience, use the experience of others. There are a lot of people that have gone ahead of you and taken the risk. Use their experience to make your move. If they have not taken the exact risk, then more than likely they have taken a similar risk. It's all their for the questioning.

So here is my question to you again, what's your point? Take the risk or lose the chance. Take the risk or face regret. Lost chances and regret are two powerful solutions to overcome fear. Get past your fear and take the risk. That's Your Point?
