What's your personal exchange rate?

What's your personal exchange rate?

Here are some buzz phrases I've been hearing a lot lately OR have even said myself...

"Work-Life Balance"

"Burnout"

"Quiet Quitting"

All of these phrases actually have the same root problem.

A broken personal exchange rate.

We are exchanging time, money and energy everyday. In pursuit of one we are often depleting another.

For example: If you want more money and you are in sales than you can put more time and energy into closing sales and BOOM more money at the exchange of time and energy.

If you want more energy. You can invest in a healthier diet and put time into exercise and sleeping and boom more energy at the expense of time and money. Sometimes we get lucky and we find something that gives double! If you are fortunate to do work that energizes you and provides money that's a win win and a kick ass way to improve your exchange rate.

But the inverse is true too. Sometimes we give too much and our exchange rate is broken. This leads to stress, burnout, overwhelm, quiet quitting and the great resignation.

We can no longer operate at our "busted" exchange rate. When I left my corporate job and got the courage to start my own business it was in part because I found myself exchanging too much time and energy for money.

When I was selling and leading I gave a lot of energy to my work but I also got energy back. Helping others filled my cup. In my last role where I wasn't working with customers or employees and was mostly sitting in a cubicle, it was highly draining for me. My exchange rate was broken.

I needed time and energy back in my life. So I sacrificed money (in the short term) in an effort to get more time and energy.

Once you gain the awareness of what you are exchanging you can start to use this as a guide for what you should or shouldn't spend your time on. Slowly you will begin to find ways to improve your exchange rate to decrease stress, find more joy and start shining again.
