What’s Your “One Thing” for 2025? The Recruitment Edition.

As the year draws to a close, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to simplify.
This reflection was sparked by the concept in The One Thing by Gary Keller. The book encourages us to focus on just one thing that will make the biggest impact - rather than getting overwhelmed by trying to do everything all at once.
When I think about recruitment, this idea couldn’t be more relevant. Recruitment can feel like a never-ending to-do list: roles to fill, processes to fix, employer branding to enhance, and a million other competing priorities.
But here’s the thing, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your recruitment strategy doesn’t have to be either. Progress happens when you focus on the right thing, at the right time.
So, as we head into 2025, let me ask you:
What’s your one thing?
Why “One Thing” Matters in Recruitment
Focusing on a single priority doesn’t mean you’re ignoring the rest. It means you’re laying the foundation for long-term success by tackling one impactful area at a time. When you do this, you reduce overwhelm, make measurable progress, and create space to truly refine your approach.
And trust me—it works.
This year, my “one thing” was to elevate the employer branding solutions I provide to my clients. I knew that by helping companies better articulate their values and culture, I could make their recruitment strategies more effective and impactful.
Focusing on just that one area has not only helped my clients attract top talent but also transformed the way their brands are perceived in the market.
What Could Your “One Thing” Be?
If you’re looking for inspiration, here are a few simple but powerful ways to elevate your recruitment strategy in 2025:
?? Give Feedback Faster: Commit to providing interview feedback within 24 hours to improve the candidate experience.

?? Revamp Your Job Ads: Rewrite your job descriptions to better reflect your company’s culture and values. Recruitment is marketing!
?? Revisit Your EVP: Reflect on your Employer Value Proposition (EVP). Are you aligned with the talent you want to attract?
?? Challenge Bias: Think about how unconscious biases or fixed mindsets may be limiting your hiring decisions.
?? Focus on Candidate Experience: Take a close look at how candidates feel during your hiring process. Small changes here can have a big impact.
?? Partner with an Expert: Collaborate with a recruitment professional to refresh your strategy and processes.
?? Audit Your Agency Panel: Do the agencies you work with align with your company’s values and candidate care standards?
?? Define Your Vision: Create a clear vision for how you want your company to be perceived as an employer in 2025.
A Final Thought
The start of a new year is the perfect time to reflect and reset, but don’t get stuck in the trap of trying to do everything. Instead, pick just one thing to focus on and commit to doing it well.
