There’s one thing that every business owner wants…

To get ahead; to be the first; to win the competitive advantage.
But all too often they’re just part of the pack; one of countless people running the same race:

Few business owners seem to go the right way about establishing the competitive advantage that they deem so important.
It’s a lot simpler than you think. The answer is a lot closer to home than you may imagine...
If you’re worried about the competition, you’re not doing it right…
I got a message recently from a client about an event he was attending. His concern was that his competition would also be there.
He was getting stressed about it:
How could his business hope to stand out over the competition?
If you think like this, you need to re-assess how you’re going about your business.
Competition is great as it shows that there’s demand in the marketplace for what you offer.
Business is full of competition based on what we do. We’re generally not unique in this aspect of our business. There are a million and one business coaches, accountants, mortgage brokers, consultants, etc.
But competition shouldn’t be something to get stressed about, as long as your business model and your message is spot on.
There’s no-one like you: that’s your competitive advantage
At The Influencer Project, we offer LinkedIn lead generation, LinkedIn coaching, LinkedIn marketing, business coaching, etc. There are others out there who do the same, of course.
We’re not unique in what we do.
It’s how we do it that provides our competitive edge: no-one does it the same way and with the same personalities involved as we do.
And the same applies to your business.
In your sector, there will be many “me too” professionals who compete on what they do.
If you do this, you’ll always have competition and there will always be someone offering a product or service perceived as “similar” or even “exactly the same” for a lower price.
How can you possibly win?
You can’t.
The trick is to look at it like this: what makes you different and rise above the competition is how you do it.

Whether you’re a business coach, mortgage broker, or accountant, what you do appears to be the same but how you do it is unique: your personality, your energy, your system, your strategy, and your approach make it so.
So that’s what you need to be pushing out there.
Instead of leading with “I’m a financial planner”, how about leading with how you get the results you want for your clients?
Never worry about the competition again…
There are three basic steps to get your positioning right so that you never need to worry about the competition again:
1. Dial in the right business model.
2. Get clear on the message that you’re going to put out there and that separates you from other “me too” professionals.
3. Once people are interested, be clear on how you take them into a conversation that solves their problem as a specialist rather than a generalist.

If you’re stuck as a “me too” professional, everything is harder: marketing, sales and running your business; and you’ll always end up comparing yourself to others doing similar variations of what you do and feeling inadequate.
Remember - there’s no-one like you. That’s your advantage. That’s your power. And that’s what you need to compete on!

4 年In my own opinion, there are three things that a leader must consider in today's competitive market; WHAT, WHO and HOW. (1)What value could you offer? (2)Who are the right people to connect and market? (3)How will you Solve Your Customers' Problems If these three are in your lists, your niche will definitely stand out.
