What’s your niche as a makeup artist?
Figuring out your niche as a makeup artist is like finding your own special sparkle. It's what makes you stand out and helps you connect with the clients who will truly love the results they achieve working with you.
Here's a breakdown of how you can start to think about it, keeping it fun and easy:
1. Discover Your Passions:
* What kind of makeup/service makes your heart sing? Do you love creating bold, colorful looks? Or are you more into natural, glowing skin? Maybe you're fascinated by special effects or vintage styles.
* Think about what you enjoy doing most. Is it bridal makeup, editorial shoots, or helping people feel confident for everyday events?
* Experiment! Try different styles and techniques to see what you naturally excel at and what brings you joy.
2. Identify Your Ideal Client:
* Who do you want to work with? Consider their age, style, and the occasions they need makeup for. Even experienced make up artist who have been in business for several years need to reassess who their ideal client is cause often this changes over time. I usually suggest to my clients to do this at least once a year using a special template I created thank you, making the process very simple.
* Imagine your dream client. What are they like? What are their needs and desires?
* Think about what problems you can solve for them. Do they struggle with finding the right foundation? Do they want to learn how to create a specific look? This is your golden ticket to be becoming a successful makeup artist. Solving a problem that your clients want to solve and maybe have been trying to solve for years.
3. Find Your Unique Angle:
* What makes you different? It could be your unique style, your personality, or your approach to makeup.
* Look at what other makeup artists are doing. How can you offer something different or better?
* Consider any special skills or interests you have. For example, maybe you're passionate about using cruelty-free products or creating makeup looks for specific skin tones.
4. Building Transformational Results:
* Listen to your clients. Pay attention to their needs and desires. Ask questions and make sure you understand what they want.
* Focus on enhancing their natural beauty. Makeup should make people feel confident and comfortable in their own skin.
* Provide a personalized experience. Tailor your services to each client's individual needs and preferences.
* Educate your clients. Share your knowledge and teach them tips and tricks they can use at home.
* Create a positive and supportive environment. Make your clients feel relaxed and comfortable during their makeup sessions.
In simpler terms:
* Think about what makeup styles you love doing.
* Think about what kind of people you want to work on.
* Find something that makes your makeup style different from everyone elses.
* And most importantly, make sure that your client feels amazing when they leave your chair.
