Last Friday, I had the opportunity to deliver a full-day workshop to a fantastic group of nearly 60 people hosting the world's largest women's bowling tournament. The United States Bowling Congress 's Women's Championships begins Saturday at the South Point Bowling Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Over the next three months, 16,800 women will bowl nine games of tournament competition.
One of the exercises I enjoy doing with teams is an exercise about their "Four Core Values" because our core values determine how we SHOW UP personally and professionally.
This isn't a straightforward exercise. There are struggles and challenges for them individually and as a team. Given a list of core values to begin the exercise, each team has to eliminate core values that aren't as important to them as others until they reach their "Four Core Values."
As I guide them through an individual and group debrief, it's often shocking for some that not every team demonstrates the same core values. When they can be curious about why some core values are important to some departments and not others, it creates some of the best conversations I've heard in these rooms.
According to Science of People, "Core values are an individual or organization's fundamental beliefs and highest priorities that drive their behavior.?You can think of your core values as an internal compass of principles that drive you or an organization's decisions.?And defining your personal values can help shape who you are and what you do. When faced with certain decisions, you can refer back to core values to ensure that you act according to what truly matters to you."
How well do you know your core values?
How well do you know your team's core values?
Do you demonstrate them every day?
How well does your organization demonstrate its core values?
What does your organization do daily to ensure they model their core values?
?
This week, I'd like you to consider one core value that is extremely important to you and how you demonstrate it daily. Then, I want you to think about how to better demonstrate that core value.

When we honor our core values, we SHOW UP from a much greater place of value and service. People connect with us differently.
Remember, how we SHOW UP matters.
P.S. – If you or someone you know is looking for a keynote speaker or workshop facilitator, I'd like to talk to you about how I can help you make your next event or meeting a big success. You can reply to this email or email me at [email protected], and we'll set up an introductory call so I can learn more about your goals for the event or meeting and share how I can help you.
