What’s your exit strategy?

Do you even have one?

I am not talking about selling a business but exiting corporate.

If you are GenX maybe you plan on retiring but when?

If not will you continue to work in your corporate job until you’re 70?

No thank you!

I don’t plan on retiring, what the hell would I do all day?

I want to work doing what I want, when I want and where I want.

And by the way, make more money than I ever could in corporate barring a large buyout.

So here is my recommendation on how to build an escape plan:

• Define what is important to you, what your why is and decide what you REALLY want. This is critical
• Take an inventory or your skills & experience (it is a lot more than you think)
• Identify the type of work you want to do and the types of clients you want to work with
• Identify the core problem you will be solving for them. This is important. The more this is a "must" solve problem vs. a "nice" to solve problem for your prospects, the easier to sell
• Calculate your financial runway. Ideally you have a couple of months to land your initial client
• Get the hell out of corporate

The key with all of this is to build momentum and go get that first customer!
