What's your company missing?

What's your company missing?

I was recently talking to my VP of Strategy about the state of the business and where things were headed. We frequently talk about the vision, and we were especially excited about the executive retreat we were having that weekend.

There was a lot of moving parts when this conversation took place and although we were very excited, I think both of us felt the importance of this critical moment for our start up. We were re-structuring our training program, on-boarding 15 new employees, launching our marketing division, and making leaps and bounds in the international commercial market.

Then there was the most critically important component… sales. Our sales team always operates at a high level and we’re dedicated to keeping it that way.

Needless to say, there was a lot going on.

Spirits were high though, and in the midst of this conversation my VP asked me something that I knew was imperative to the success of Dvinci Energy. He asked me, “How do you think we should drive home the importance of our mission to the entire organization? How do we keep our mission at the forefront of our mind?”

It hit me. We needed clarity.

As the great Mahatma Gandhi said, “A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history”. Gandhi’s mission was his lifelong fight for the independence of India. Men and women like this are the epitome of what’s possible when people come together to accomplish a mission.

For most, with daily hustle, relationships, and everyday “problems”, it can become difficult to keep this whimsical dream in mind.

Therein lies the opportunity. We knew this dream wasn’t some far fetched thing for us. We knew it was possible and we’ve known it was possible for years. Our mission is to empower. To empower communities to do more – sustainably- by giving our end-users freedom and control through sustainable and bankable technologies. We are doing this – one person, one home, one neighborhood at a time, while simultaneously helping solve the current climate crisis.

Since that conversation, I’ve realized an important lesson.

When you instill mission into the core, into the branding, the marketing, the philanthropy, into everything, then you are bound to create an organization that is mission-centric. You create an organization with absolute clarity from the front lines to the executives. Which turns a multifaceted mechanism into a flowing machine that executes like a heat-seeking missile. With clarity, flow is controllable, flow is inevitable.
