Ho ho ho! December is here (hasn't that come around fast?!), so there are officially no excuses left - time to dive into the Christmas cheer and festivities!
But before we get swept away, let's jump back to November and recap some highlights from last month.
Our Future in Focus
What is Our Future in Focus, you say? It is a membership group (separate from a Shropshire Chamber of Commerce membership), centered on empowering future leaders, specifically young people aged 18 - 30. This group fosters connections among like-minded peers, enhances personal knowledge, and contributes positively to the Shropshire business community. In simple terms, it's a chance for young people to make meaningful connections, learn and have fun!
Currently, our members range from university students to apprentices to early-career professionals working their way up the ladder.
Past events which we have run for the group in 2023/2024 included archery, a session on planning for your financial future, and a Christmas catch-up at a local, cosy pub in Shrewsbury.
Last month, we hosted an event at our Telford Chamber office with Lucy Edgar from Human Everything , who shared insights and practical tips on how to confidently navigate and communicate across generations in the workplace.
One fascinating takeaway from this session was the idea that we often judge others based on their impact rather than their intent - definitely something to think about...
In January, we will be touring Telford Fire Station's new facility, featuring a talk from their Prevention and Protection team. Find out more (link) and attend your first event for free - or message Ella Preece on LinkedIn, who helps run the group!
Network of Women
We also hosted our favoured Network of Women event over at the beautiful Weston Park Enterprises Ltd . The room buzzed with energy and offered the perfect setting to connect with women from all types of business backgrounds in Shropshire, gain fresh insights, and forge mutually beneficial relationships. The event also featured guest speaker Naomi Atkin from Lingen Davies who captivated the room with her honest and engaging presentation.

Now onto the exciting part... CHRISTMAS!
The week just passed, we hosted two festive events: our Coffee and Mince Pie Morning and the annual AGM and Christmas Lunch.
Our Coffee and Mince Pie Morning offered friendly, laid-back networking with plenty of Christmas cheer filling the room, and of course, traditional mince pies. What better way to get everyone into the Christmas spirit?!
We then gathered with Shropshire Chamber members at Hawkstone Hall & Gardens for our AGM and Christmas Lunch. The Chamber team presented highlights and achievements from 2024, showcasing our growth and successes. This was followed by a three course Christmas lunch, and, as tradition has it, we held our charity raffle, made up of prizes generously donated by members. Thank you to everyone who joined us to mark the occasion!
Christmas Jumper Day
We'd also like to highlight the annual Christmas Jumper Day, which lands on Thursday, 12th December. It's the perfect chance to dig your ugliest Christmas jumpers out of the loft! Every year, millions of people across the UK join in - not only to show off their festive jumpers but also to raise money for Save the Children, helping to give children the magical future they deserve.
Rest assured, the Shropshire Chamber team will be proudly wearing their Christmas jumpers on December 12th!
Upcoming Events
We're sorry to bring up the new year with Christmas just around the corner, but we promise it's for a good reason! Being in business means always looking and planning ahead! So now, let's take a look at what events we have coming up in January 2025 and beyond (we'll have to get used to typing that, won't we!).
Yes, you read that correctly, the launch of our Shropshire Chamber Business Awards! Join us to officially open entries for the awards, introduce new-look categories and criteria, find out details of the prestigious night, and meet past winners, finalists and judges as they share their experiences.
