Hello September!?
We’ve seen the next generation of our Shropshire workforce enjoy their school holidays and collect exam results, and now we’re seeing them return to school, college or university or start amazing apprenticeships across the county. It can only mean that August has come to an end and we’ve got all the fun of September to look forward to!
Last month we enjoyed our usual networking clubs in Shrewsbury, Telford, and Oswestry, plus our combined network club bringing all three groups together at the lovely Carriages.?
We also waved goodbye to our wonderful Company Secretary Ann Fisher, who has been with us for nearly a decade. We’re extremely thankful to Ann for her commitment to our Chamber and its members over the years, and wish her all the best.
So, what’s on in September and beyond?
Brush up on your digital marketing
The digital world is going nowhere so it’s really important you keep digital marketing skills up to date. Here are the upcoming sessions we have:
Or if you’d like your business seen by more people, it’s time you attended Google Ads training hosted by the brilliant Ascendancy - which is also a Google Partner! There is a beginner course on September 14th, or an advanced course on October 18th.
Improve your workplace culture
Being a great employer and having a good work culture is a key way to retain and attract fantastic employees. Some of our upcoming training sessions can make sure your workplace is as good as it can be:
And if you’re looking to attract new talent, mark your calendar for October 25th and book onto ‘the key factors to running a successful recruitment campaign’.
Want to grow your business?
If you’re looking to take on new clients, we have training sessions just for you.?
Training available for sales and business growth include:
Marketing to attract local clients, October 19th
Now, put your new skills to good use!
There’s no point attending training about networking and attracting new clients if you don’t get yourself out there! Luckily for you, we have our monthly Network Clubs for you to meet other business professionals:
As always, there’s also our Combined Network Club which brings all three groups together so you can meet each other. This month’s session is taking place on September 27th at Albright Hussey.
If you prefer ‘habit stacking’ and getting some exercise while you network, we’ll also be Netwalking on September 29th. This month’s location is the beautiful Wenlock Edge!
Last but not least, we have a bonus networking event in September! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at The Woodberry on September 13th for the Bridgnorth Networking Breakfast - book your spot before it sells out!

So, what else is on?
The ever-popular HR in Focus is returning on September 19th at the Wroxeter Hotel, a stunning venue. This is your chance to meet other HR professionals from the area and develop your knowledge with a talk about ‘tackling workplace niggles head-on’. It’s not one to miss!
Speaking of events not to miss, our Network of Women is taking place on September 20th at the beautiful Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort. We still have some tickets left but these events always sell out, so make sure you’re quick! Attendees can get to know one another and hear from Felicity Wingrove of Zen Communications in her talk, The True Secret to Having it All (Without Burning Out).
If you’re a regular attendee of our Professionals Partnership, you can expect to enjoy another event on September 22nd at Shrewsbury Town Football Club. This month, we’ll hear from guest speaker Paul Bennett. Never been before? Well let’s change that, book your spot now!
Get the social calendar out!
We do love social occasions at Shropshire Chamber, and the next few weeks have plenty in store. Building relationships doesn’t just happen at a network group but also over food and drink - social occasions can often be the most successful for business!
Charity member Midlands Air Ambulance is hosting its 2023 Recognition Awards & Charity Ball at Edgbaston Stadium on September 22nd. Expect live entertainment, a three-course meal, and of course some fantastic opportunities to raise money for a brilliant cause. National treasure Alison Hammond will be hosting, too!
If you prefer a daytime affair, the Shropshire Chamber Business Lunch is taking place on October 4th at the Weston Park Foundation. There will be a two course lunch and lots of networking!
Our Quizzically Challenged Trivia Night will be returning on October 5th at Hadley Park House Hotel - a fantastic opportunity to have some fun with your colleagues and test your knowledge!
The big one… our Connectin Business Expo!
Our second Connectin Business Expo of 2023 will be held at Shrewsbury Town Football Club on October 11th. This is a fantastic networking opportunity and a chance to find local businesses who you could support.
If you’d like a stand at the Expo, please visit here. Our last Expo was fully-booked for exhibitors, so be quick!?
Don’t forget if you’re one of our many All-inclusive members a free stand is part of your membership so be quick - first come, first served. If you’ve missed out this time then you will be put on a priority list for the next one.
It’s completely free to attend the Expo but we do ask you to book your spot in advance so we can get an idea of numbers. You can do so here.
Make sure you’re making the most of your Chamber
There are so many benefits to being a Chamber member - from free stands at our Expos to free advice lines - and we want to make sure you’re maximising your membership.
You’re right, that does sound like a great name for an event… and you can sign up to our Maximise Your Membership on September 12th right here!
We’d also like to remind you you can use our website to promote any events you have going on. You can see a few examples on our Events Calendar - anything in purple is a member’s event.
Lastly, could you support us?
On September 8th our team will be donning fancy dress and taking to the River Severn for the Coracle World Championships, in aid of Shropshire’s Macmillan Cancer Support!
Every penny counts and we would love your support for such a brilliant charity. Of course, you’re welcome to come along to the Quarry, the Boat House, or anywhere near Pengwern Boat Club to watch the event and have a giggle!
You can donate to our fundraiser here.
