What’s your career geometry? 12 questions to clarify your path [Wise Wednesdays]

Are you feeling a little hazy about the future and what your career and life might look like?

The recent Winter Revelations sessions confirmed a truth many are feeling: in today’s BANI world (Brittle, Anxiety-inducing, Non-linear, Incomprehensible), rigid goals, plans and strategies no longer serve us.

Life and work today are more like a centerless circle than a linear path. It’s like solving a complex equation—unnerving but ultimately more satisfying.

Your career, like an elegant geometry, aligns your unique gifts with a universal design, guided by a vision within and practical action.

Here’s are my current career and business geometry and 12 questions to help you uncover yours. It’s based on the Buddhist Middle Way - avoiding extremes and discovering the path forward as it emerges.

[Four dimensions]:

You:?Do you remember who you are (beyond identity and titles) and revel in its quiet beauty?

Your sphere of influence:?Are you clear on what’s within your control and what isn’t so you can focus on the former and let go of the latter?

The Field of Possibilities:?Do you regularly experiment with the possibilities beyond your zone of comfort so you can grow and contribute to your full potential?

The Great Symphony of Life:?Are you connected to a greater order or flow of life, and align with it?

[Four reference points]:

Mission: Do you have a way to orient to life and contribute that makes full use of your abilities (your vision, values, voice, and visibility path)?

Money: Do you understand how to give, ask, and receive money (and material things) as a form of energy without turning it into a trap?

Managing energy:?Are you attuned to your body, heart, and mind so you can work with the ebbs and flows of your energy and master your mental state?

Making relationships:?Do you appreciate the interconnectedness of life and honour needs and boundaries in a 3-way perspective (yours, theirs, and the relationship’s)?

[Four practices]:

Metaphysics: Do you learn about how reality and the world work?

Meaning: Do you have a systematic way of harnessing how your mind makes meaning of events and creates your experience?

Mindfulness: Do you bring presence and clarity to your interactions with people and the world?

Meditation: Do you regularly sit still and simply know what it is to be alive and awake?

Legend in the Making: A talented surgeon I’ve been guiding and coaching this past few months was feeling drained and frustrated in his role for years. We explored and clarified his bigger vision for the healthcare system, put in place a very simple practical plan, and amplified his leadership voice.
