What’s your biggest IT issue in your business?

What’s your biggest IT issue in your business?

Is it:

  1. Slow computers?
  2. Bamboozled by all the jargon around security, but scared you may not be protected?
  3. Old kit but you are baffled by the new “stuff” on the market?
  4. Too many error messages and losing time to downtime?
  5. Lost data?

When we asked our clients, these were their top five IT issues, but maybe yours is something else?

Or you may be surprised that so many other business owners are experiencing the same problems and frustrations as you and your staff?

Staring at the ‘circle of doom’ while your computer churns away and you sit there waiting, is just so unnecessary.

The problem is so common that many people think it is normal, as they have got used to it. But it doesn’t have to be this way. There is a better way of doing things, a way where IT works with your business, not against it.

Time is a finite resource, that we cannot get back, and that you are paying your staff for. We are sure you would rather pay them to be productive than to sit around, waiting for the system to catch up!

So what is your top IT problem?

What is the one thing that drives you mad with frustration?

What would you change about your business IT to smooth out processes, make your company more efficient, put an end to wasted time and stop those feelings of frustration?

Remember that lost time costs money!

Our tips to removing the top five IT problems from your business

1.?Slow computers

You are constantly putting more and more into your computer and expecting to get more and more out of them.

If your system is slow and not handling demand, see what can be improved or removed from your system to speed things up:

  • Old programmes – have some applications been replaced by new ones or apps in the cloud?
  • Archive old files – set up a system for archiving, so old folders aren’t sitting on staff devices
  • Are you running the latest versions of software, and is it updated regularly?

Clearing out the old will speed up processes, improving productivity and saving you time and money!

2.?Do your staff still input data manually?

Reduce the risk of human error and streamline your business processes by implementing programmes to help you.

There are lots of apps and software programmes to help with things like stock control, accounts, invoicing, wages, purchasing etc.

Thinking about how you work is the first step to considering how it can be improved.

3.?Looking for new IT?

It can be a minefield if you don’t know what you are doing or are not tech savvy.

Simply asking yourself a few questions, will help you to narrow down your needs for your business.

  • What is your end goal?
  • What do you need your IT to do to achieve this?
  • What software are you currently using?
  • How can IT help you staff to do their jobs better?
  • Is the new tech easy to use and integrate with your existing systems, setup, and processes?
  • What are the security options/implications?

Think about your business needs from both a people and a process perspective. It should be easy for your staff to use – you don’t want to add to their frustrations with usability problems!

4.?Error messages and downtime

Sometimes those arcane error messages, written in “Geek speak” actually mean something!

Get to the root cause of the issue and finding out why it’s happening, will help you to resolve it and implement processes to prevent the same thing from happening again.

Just because an error message seems to disappear if you click OK doesn’t mean that the problem is no longer there!

5.?Lost data

Unless you know where all your data is saved, you cannot protect it nor attempt to retain connection to it.

Make sure you have a robust disaster recovery plan and backup system in place, so you can be up and running again quickly, should you lose access to your data for whatever reason.

The security one is always interesting. My antivirus software recommends turning off windows defender (or whatever it's called these days,) then windows complains and tells me I'm not protected. I've chosen to believe the specialist company, but can see how it could be confusing and potentially scary.
