What's on your ballot? Informed voting 101

This month at 10 Little Rules we’re talking about stories … our own, each others, and the story of this country. A huge part of the United States’ story is voting … this brave thing we do in a participatory democracy. And that means voting for everything, not just the biggies that roll around every four years in November.
Our democracy’s story also depends on local, county and state level elections … for school board candidates, district attorneys, town council members, special referendums, etc.
The challenge is knowing all the issues ahead of time, understanding not just who you’ll be asked to vote for, but what … town budget referendums, local drain and road commissioners … so many things that impact our day to day lives and how our state and local tax dollars are spent.
One sure fire way to have the info you need? Head to Ballotpedia, enter your street address, and find complete ballot info for any upcoming elections (here in Bay County Michigan, we have local elections this week). It’s super simple, takes about 30 seconds, and you don’t have to enter any personal info. (You may enter an email if you want your ballot sent to you … you can also view and print the ballot right from their website.)
The site also gives you the option to dig deeper into each item on the ballot, with links to candidate profiles so you can vote confidently.
Voting is our American right.
INFORMED voting is our American superpower.
Questions? We love helping people flex their voting muscles … even if you’ve never voted before and aren’t sure if you’re registered. Message us and we’ll point you to the non-partisan tools you need.
