What's worse than Validation?
Welcome to my first article after being employed. Here are somethings that I learned and have a better appreciation for.
I was able to visit Boston to see family and friends during my time of unemployment. Just walking around the city knowing you don't have a job is quite a confusing feeling.
During the unpaid hours of my week at home, I wanted to make good use of my time only for the fact that when you are being interviewed, most employers will ask you what you did during your down time. I have a friend who was in the union that left in order to start his own electrical business. So I decided to shadow him and see what I can assist with.
First of all, appreciate your electrician or anyone that does physical labor. You might be reading this article, sitting in a comfortable chair in an air conditioned room, while these guys are physically sweating trying to meet their deadlines. I learned how to put in a 3 prong outlet. It was the easiest job that day, but all the prep job wasn't. Every time I charge my phone now, I remember how long it takes to setup a power outlet.
My first EIS assignment was "performing" time studies for a medical device company. I was happy that the site was located in Colorado. The reason for time studies is to find the actual cost and time it takes to manufacture a product. It could be boring at times... that just the truth. I reminded myself would I rather do this or physical labor. Change your mindset and your thoughts will follow. It was enjoyable working with the clients for 2 weeks. Working from home gets lonely, so being able to surround yourself with others makes the day go by faster. So this eBay store is located in Monument, Colorado guess the movie "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" could be based on a true story.
It was nice being able to join a company that allows you to book your own accommodations. As always, my first go to is Marriott's Residence Inn. With their new happy hour program, you can go down to the lobby for drinks and appetizers instead of being cooped up in your room.
This is the view outside the window. Yes I know...unreal.
During our second week, my coworker Josh and I decided to go visit Colorado Springs for dinner. We decided to choose a barcade called Supernova and it did not disappoint. First of all this guy won bingo back-to-back nights, yeah that's a serious LinkedIn skill. It was nice to be able to "wine" down during dinner with coworkers again. That's it for now, thank you for reading and enjoy that pumpkin spice latte before the season ends!
