What's Not Working Mastermind - Team Engagement and Motivation

How does Wisdom speak to Power??

This common thread emerged across the participants at the last What's Not Working Mastermind.?

Reserve your spot for the May 13 What's Not Working Mastermind - Team Engagement and Motivation

Many see themselves as having Wisdom. They have a keen desire to contribute, support, and influence. They want to be seen, heard, appreciated and compensated for their experience. Too often they feel excluded and discounted.?

There were several Wisdom Keepers at this Mastermind. People who are knowledgable and experienced experts at what they do.?

Those in Power feel the weight of responsibity. The organization trusts them to deliver. Time is not on their side. Many times they resort to the success strategies that got them to Power. They slowly find the behaviors which got them to their position will not serve them when they have Power. They may have Imposter Syndrome. Have you ever seen a Leader annouce to their team they believe they aren't capable to perform their job??

The emotions of frustration, anxiety, fear, doubt, rightousness, resentment and resignation were evident in the stories.?

Personal styles, biases, unmet needs, and exclusions were clearly "in play".?

The Wisdom Keepers believed they were excluded and marginalized. Wisdom Keepers have a deep desire to help.?

Clearly, the current state isn't working for them.?

OK, you got the context. You have been there, maybe you are there now. So how do you align Wisdom and Power??

Sorry, no silver bullets. No simple solutions.

You can't Google a solution and make it so.?You know this because you have tried.

Here is what happened at the Mastermind.?

The participants were couragously vulnerable in their sharing. They supported and complimented each other. They found common ground. They were inspired and they were inspiring. They openly reflected on how their thinking, speaking, and actions might be contribting to their situation.?

We roughly followed a process for creating a plan for new actions. I shared a useful model for how Trust is assessed. A few "wisdoms" were shared:?

  • "Wisdom is sometimes best imparted through insightful questions."
  • "Trust is the foundation of relationship. Relationship is the foundation of accomplishment."
  • "The advice I most often take is my own."?

The participants left with their own insights and actions. One word checkouts included the words:

  • "Open"
  • "Awesome session"
  • "Pensive"
  • "Validated'
  • "Thanks"

Does this sound like the kind of learning environment you would like to try??
