After much valuable feedback - I'm bringing you the new and (hopefully) improved Ashley Talks! They are now 1. shorter 2. focus on one topic per time 3. all topics are around China market, Chinese consumers and China's social media 4. well researched and prepared. 5. plus, I speak slower, less loud, with less 'aaa's and try not to come across arrogant while doing all that.
In this video I talk about WeChat. So what is it?
WeChat, also known as WeiXin, is an app offering free instant messaging and other services. It was launched by Tencent in 2011. By the end of 2016, it had reached 889 million monthly active users with an annual growth of 35%. WOW!
WeChat has steadily grown to be the most used app as well as one of the most popular social media platforms in China. Over half of the total WeChat users spend more then 90 minutes on WeChat every day.
The key features of WeChat include:
- Instand Messaging, inlacing text, voice and video calls.
- Moments, which is similar to a user's Facebook wall.
- Official accounts, verified accounts for businesses, public figures and organisations.
- WeChat pay, p2p payments, utility bill payments, taxi hailing and more.
- Mini Program, which is an app within an app.
