Geoffrey Colvin's article from 2015 holds even more relevance today. How does a future look like where technology and people come even more closer together. Empathy above all, collaborating, storytelling, solving problems together, building relationships - are these the top human abilities and skills of the future?
Trust is one of the core human emotions and values which machine can probably understand, but never be able to embody like a human does. Trust is a value created by humans, and understood by humans (and other living creatures similarly). Trust is not always logical, and cannot always be explained, but can always be expressed.
Data on the other hand can be seen as the "food for thought", and source of the emotions for an AI. Data in its nature is objective, neutral- it doesn't stem from emotions, but from actual occurrences, "facts" measured in the real world.
Together, human emotion and machine intelligence can create a future where both co-exist and complement each other, relying on their core purpose. People will never stop feeling, just like machines will never be able to be 'intelligent' without data. In a future where we need both, each has its place. Trust is the ultimate emotion which helps us decide if we want to allow our data to transform simple machine operations into a powerful artificial intelligence.
