What's in a title? Paul Mitchell OBE(not), MBE(not) TiCKle, SpLLatt, WOOf
Well for those that haven't looked correctly I haven't knighted myself (nor do I see one forthcoming) but I have recently noticed the proliferation of people who add every title known to man after their name. What do other people think about this as I'm curious?
I recently saw one person who had 7 salutations after their name. Is it vanity or is it showing potential suitors at a glance how well they are qualified? I must add I am not quite sure where I sit on this one.
In terms of industry specific qualifications then adding the main / highest you have (BA for instance) might possibly add some credence, but would it be better practice to add the rest on your CV? I am sure the recruiters on here will answer that and those who feel insulted by the vanity implication as well!

9 年Great analogy MPW! It's not what's written on the tyre wall but the depth of tread and how well your tyres stick on the challenging road ahead....

9 年Surely the key aspect is to get the balance right. So what that I am chartered and have a masters degree, with a host of post-nominals that you either love or hate (like marmite). These may get me in the door and in some cases prove professional competency within a wider EU context. It is at interview that the experience is able to be described and when the 'rubber hits the road' that you really see the depth of the tread, amongst other things.

9 年I recently asked a good recruiter about down grading my qualifications and salutations he hit the roof. Tony your CV is your marketing tool this is you and it shows prospective employers you have the experience and get up and go to better yourself and not just go with the tide. So if you are entitled to salutations use them. I can't wait to finally get my CMIOSH.
Marc harries - I would take the Miss or Mrs Ghandi to do my transplant as she is the surgeon...... A Dr is a physician who does not perform surgery!!!! ;-)
Experience is all they need. I'm 100% I would walk all over other HSE Professionals that have 5 years industry experience but with all the "big look at me" letters after their names! Getting your hands dirty at the start of your career and working up the ladder whilst soaking up all the info from your seniors is Key! Bizarrely..... this only seems to be the case within the safety gurus! U don't see DSV lads putting all this nonsense beside their names and these boys have all the knowledge and experience etc!
