In this week’s “What’s in Tech” newsletter, we have covered the latest developments in the AI space. Highlights include Google’s launch of AI-enabled Pixel phones, Huawei’s AI chip to challenge NVIDIA and xAI’s new AI assistant Grok 2. Announced two months ahead of Google's typical schedule, the company launched the latest Pixel device line-up enhanced with AI features including screenshot search, Gemini chatbot overlay.
The move stands in contrast to Apple’s more limited approach with its upcoming AI model set to launch later this year but will initially be available only in English and exclusively in the US.
The live demo aimed to demonstrate Gemini's new capabilities on Android to connect with Google Calendar, Tasks, and Keep.
The programme will include building new industry solutions utilizing Gemini models, developing joint GTM programs, integrating Gemini Code Assist into Wipro’s own internal tooling to accelerate application development, and utilizing Gemini for rapid prototyping of its own internal applications.
Google Cloud announced plans to establish a startup hub and CoE in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. NVIDIA suggested creating a blueprint to transform the state into the “Intelligence Capital of India”.

The NVIDIA Inception membership will provide CoRover with access to NVIDIA’s resources, including GPUs, compute power, and software support. This partnership is expected to accelerate CoRover’s development of AI-driven customer engagement solutions.

Walmart reports that generative AI is 100 times more productive than humans for updating product pages. The company has used AI to enhance over 850 million product listings, vastly improving speed and detail. Walmart is also introducing a new AI shopping assistant and exploring further AI applications.
Cisco plans to cut 7% of its global workforce, marking its second round of layoffs this year. The restructuring aims to save $1 billion. Despite the layoffs, Cisco is investing $1 billion in AI startups and partnering with Nvidia to enhance AI infrastructure and cybersecurity.
