What's Spilling Over?

As far as emotions go, your cup runneth over my friend.

Your emotions (and everyone else’s) are contagious! Just like a virus they pass from one person to another, one group to another and then to another again. The energy of a bad mood, a discouraging outlook or a harsh comment passes from one person to another all too easily - spreading negativity and sometimes fear.

So isn’t it wonderful that positive emotions spread easily too? I smile, you smile back and perhaps pass that smile along to the next person you see. I share heartfelt congratulations or tell you what a valuable member of the team you are and you are likely to say something appreciative to another.

I’m a big believer of what Lincoln called, “The better angels of our nature.” I know that despite trauma, despite pain and despite failure, there is something that rises in us that helps us unwind the past and rewire ourselves for a happier more fulfilling future – one that is flourishing!

In this newsletter “The Positive Spillover Effect,” I am going to challenge you to see the interconnectedness of all things. I’m going to ask you to go deep and authentic as you examine your leadership practice and how it impacts others.

I remember that as a young leader I took a lot of missteps. It took me quite a while before I realized leadership wasn’t about me, it was about them.

Even after I left the company, the profitable little division I had started stayed together, fairly happily as I recall, for 10 years before the company sold it. I grew into positive leadership, and as you know I’m still growing.

Here I am going to invite you to become part of a positive wave on this planet that will help open minds and hearts so we might be able to deal with some of the big challenges we are faced with now.

All leadership is self-leadership. At the very core of well-being at work is the well-being of the leaders.

As businesses struggle with disengagement and burnout, employee loss and stress, the very first step to discovering a solution is to look inward at how you are feeling, coping and dealing. Do you have the tools and the knowledge and the space you need to be the best leader you can be?

Are you connected to the kind of support that will help bring you diverse perspectives on the challenges you are faced with? I’m committed to the expansion and spillover of positive cultures.

Positive spillover occurs when satisfaction, happiness, appreciation, and stimulation at work translate into high levels of energy and positivity at home and in your community. When our workplaces nourish the best of who we are, encourage us appropriately to expand outside our comfort zones, and provide a place where we can bring our whole self to work/play/grow, the business thrives and has a significant competitive advantage. ?

Positive culture is the ultimate competitive advantage. You can’t consistently create Customer ?Evangelists, deliver WOW experiences or knock anyone's socks off with a Ho-hum culture. ?

When you build an optimistic culture that’s coherent, aligned, strong and focused on creating positive customer and employee experiences – you've created an organism that can out think, out delight and out move the competition!

It’s the culture in your organization that will determine how close you come to realizing your highest business potential. In order to create engaged, happy and loyal customers, you must create an engaged, happy and loyal workforce; one built on strengths, vision, common goals and focus on the customer.

You can’t create real and lasting value in the marketplace, unless you are creating real and lasting value in the workplace.

At the very core of well-being at work is the well-being of the leaders.

At the very core of the customer experience is the well-being of everyone delivering it.

So in this space every other week you will see pieces on self-care, team dynamics, the Feel-Good-at-Work Factors and my passion project – supporting the creation of strong positive cultures where positivity spills over onto the employees, the customers, the families, the friends, the suppliers, the industries, the charities, the communities.

The job is too big for me, so I am asking for your help.

Subscribe to this newsletter, repost it in your feed. Ask friends to subscribe to it too!

Let’s get rid of toxic cultures. Let’s free workers from abusive behaviors, bad bosses and all the negative energy they take home at night. Let’s become the kind of leaders that invite, engage and celebrate people daily!

I welcome you on this journey with me.??And please bring 3 friends.

Positivity is contagious – spread it around!

Luv this. One thing I did not read re: get rid of bad bosses etc is the fact that you cannot change bad bosses, don’t waste your energy; save all your prana ( energy) put it in your own self- development. Look @ bad bisses as opportunities to practice; if it’s not working, look for other employment. We can do this ! Joanna, I would like to use edited version of your teachings on my Sultana hub xox
