What's the soul of the company? This?-

It's the Company Culture!

But what does company culture mean and why is it so important in today’s day and age?

While there are many technical definitions to understand what company culture means, it basically boils down to the experience and the vibe of a company.?

It’s how things work in a space or container which is focused on a mission and vision to create change in the world. But the mission and vision are not at the center or even the main character of the show.

It’s the people. The people that make the company a living breathing thing.?

If your mission and vision are the brains of the company and the people are the heart, then the soul is the company culture. Something that ensures that the company is alive and thriving.

Culture is extremely crucial when it comes to defining a brand and its voice, not just for the behind-the-scenes company videos, but also to define how your employees feel while working with you.

Having been a part of a bad work culture and researched to learn more about it, I can say with guarantee that it creates space for -

- Toxic Workplaces that are fueled by miscommunication,

- The breeding ground for Mental Health Issues,

- Inability to communicate within teams to talk about problems, boundaries, etc,

- A broken work environment where everyone is focused on competition and being the best, over collaboration and making sure that the brand enables the people they serve,

- High Employee Turnover,

- Burnouts,

and so much more!

So what can you as an entrepreneur do to ensure that your culture doesn’t go bad?

You constantly ask yourself -

- Is my brand’s work culture enabling the people that I work with? Are they being fueled by the culture or depleted by it? — Are you aware of where your company culture is at?

- How long has it been since we changed the work culture of this company? (Are you stagnant, or are you evolving with time?) — People change with time. What must’ve been a luxury in terms of culture a few years ago can turn into a necessity now. If you are still functioning on an old soul in the time of young blood joining you, your culture can easily be unbalanced. Try to utilize the traditions as a foundation to evolve. How can you do that? By checking out the next question!

- When was the last time I brought my people together and invited them to brainstorm with me what the company’s ideal work culture should look like? — The best way to evolve your company culture is to ask the heart of the company for ideas. The old and the young can combine their minds to create a culture that works for everyone.?

These things do sound easy but it can be difficult to formulate and organize these meetings. But when it is the most difficult and it seems like there is no time to work/focus on your culture… That’s the best time to do so.

As a team, you shouldn’t feel burdened by your work but rather elevated by it. Your work should be a stepping stone to evolving not only as an individual but also as a team and a company.

This work is obviously more flexible with small agencies, and startups, but… You always have the option to start small if you are working in a big company. If you are someone who can’t bring change to the entire company’s work culture, bring change to your team’s work culture!

Start small, but start!

If you would like to understand the importance of your company’s work culture, its connection to burnouts, and how you can improve/evolve the culture — hop on a call with me, and we will work on creating something that fuels and energizes your entire brand!
