What’s so great about working with a (unicorn) start-up?

The definition of a tech unicorn is a fast-growing technology company that has reached a valuation of $1billion without being listed on the stock market.? This is the dream of any tech start-up and Ireland has more than earned its reputation of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the technology industry.?
If you look back over the 2000’s, Ireland has paved the way for a thriving ecosystem of tech innovators and now thanks to strategic investments in education (an inspiring example is UL’s innovative Immersive Software Engineering course), supportive pro-business policies and funding opportunities in the form of R&D tax credits and grants,? we have created an environment that not only supports but actively promotes our tech entrepreneurial community.
You only have to look at the Collison brothers of Stripe, Eoghan McCabe of Intercom and so many others to realise that Ireland is definitely punching above its weight when it comes to producing tech innovators. Our reputation as a location of choice for big tech companies over the year has meant that Irish technologists are learning from some of the best before branching out on their own. Recent cuts in employment from the big tech companies has only spurred on the entrepreneurial spirit and it’s resulted in a plethora of new innovative tech companies who could be Ireland’s next tech unicorn.
So, once they have the idea and the product, how do they scale up? Apart from funding, attracting further human talent to come on their journey is the next big challenge.
Why would a technology professional join a start-up as opposed to an established tech company that could possibly offer more security?

In conclusion, Ireland's significant contributions to global tech innovation underscore its pivotal role as a hub of technological advancement. The country has provided a platform for tech innovation and entrepreneurship and for many tech professionals, joining a tech start-up offers the very possibility to be an integral player in a tech unicorn’s exciting journey.
