What’s the secret to GenAI? Data management!

Everyone is talking about generative AI - they want to reap the benefits, save costs, add revenue opportunities, get more ROI, increase efficiency, and more!?

We need to remember that GenAI needs DATA, and data needs to be properly organized, stored, governed, and managed. This means we need to focus on data management before we can reap those benefits from GenAI.?

While attending Gartner’s Data & Analytics Summit, I visited the IBM booth and had a firsthand look at how businesses are using GenAI to increase productivity. I even had the chance to get a full walkthrough of various IBM demos and attend a session on the importance of GenAI across businesses with Manish Goyal and Parul Mishra.

Manish shared that today, 64% of CEOs say they face significant pressure from investors, creditors, and lenders to accelerate adoption of generative AI. However, there is a great deal of confusion about where and how generative AI will drive the greatest value for enterprise.?

Parul discussed the concept of intelligent AI assistants that can provide employees, including knowledge workers and managers, with access to information and automation without the need to switch contexts.?

These assistants can handle tasks such as sending emails, transferring employees, and accessing knowledge bases, thereby reducing the need for employees to use multiple applications and switch between them frequently.?

The goal is to improve productivity by integrating AI into workflows and platforms, allowing for a more seamless and efficient work experience.?

They shared an example of how a large US healthcare payer achieved 90% accuracy through speech customization training and received 83% positive feedback from agents on summarized responses - which is HUGE!?

A quick reminder here that we can’t have success with GenAI assistants until we get a good handle of data management.

Feeling inspired from my time at the Summit, I recently watched a free episode from IBM’s AI Academy - ‘Is data management the secret to generative AI?’ In this episode, I was able to learn why high-quality data is essential for the successful use of GenAI.

My favorite quote from Luv Aggarwal, Worldwide Sales Leader, at IBM watsonx, was that “data is the only sustainable source of competitive advantage in business.” I completely agree with Luv and believe that data must be treated like a precious asset by the business.?
