However, a persistent tension exists: how can we reconcile the diversity and subjectivity of human input with the need for consistent, actionable data? Well, in my opinion, rather than viewing disagreement as a problem, it should be seen as an opportunity—one that enables the creation of more nuanced and inclusive systems that reflect the complexity of human perspectives. By adopting deliberative, dynamic, and disagreement-aware methods, we can guide AI closer to being a tool for equity rather than a mechanism for perpetuating bias.

Where Human Feedback is Making an Impact
Industries ranging from technology to healthcare rely on human feedback to align AI systems with real-world expectations. Technology companies like OpenAI, DeepMind, and Anthropic utilise human feedback to fine-tune models for safety, usability, and alignment with human preferences. In customer-facing sectors such as e-commerce and social media, businesses incorporate user interactions to personalise experiences and enhance satisfaction. Healthcare and education systems also leverage human input to improve the accuracy and ethical use of AI in high-stakes scenarios, while creative tools like Grammarly and DALL-E refine their outputs based on user preferences. Even public policy applications, such as urban planning or predictive policing, depend on community feedback to align AI-driven decisions with societal values.
