What’s Really on Pharmacists' Minds?

In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, pharmacists are facing challenges and opportunities that are reshaping the way they work. But what’s top of mind for those in the profession?

Pharmacy automation is no longer a luxury; it's a necessity in today’s resource-strapped environment.

As pharmacies close and staffing shortages rise, automation is becoming a hot topic. How can pharmacies continue to provide excellent patient care while handling shrinking resources? Many pharmacists are turning to solutions like pharmacy automation to streamline operations and reduce errors.

At the same time, pharmacists are grappling with PBM reforms and drug pricing pressures. With reimbursement rates declining, how can pharmacies stay profitable? The call for reform in Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) has never been louder.

The scope of practice for pharmacists is expanding, too. Many are asking, “How can we further extend our role in healthcare?” Administering vaccines, providing clinical services, and offering patient care management with adherence packaging for long term care - are all on the table.

Then, there’s telepharmacy and digital health. As healthcare moves more into the virtual space, pharmacies must adapt. But how do they maintain personal connections with patients in this increasingly digital world? Pharmacists can maintain personal connections in a digital world by leveraging virtual consultations, personalized medication management apps, and proactive communication through telepharmacy platforms. These tools allow them to stay engaged with patients, offer tailored care, and ensure accessibility, even remotely.

Finally, medication adherence remains a persistent concern. Are we doing enough to ensure patients take their medications correctly? With solutions like adherence packaging and refill programs, pharmacists are in a prime position to improve outcomes.

Pharmacists, what tools or strategies are you adopting to stay ahead?
