What’s Next For Enterprise Mobility?
2016 was a huge year for enterprise mobility, with more and more businesses embracing mobile-centric strategies. It’s clear for all to see that this trend isn’t going anywhere, but the question many organisations are all facing is ‘where is it going to take us?’
Companies are taking huge strides to implement innovative mobile solutions, and with these implementations, it’s critical to keep a close eye on trends that will begin to emerge over the next 12 to 18 months.
Innovation in the enterprise will accelerate even faster this year, with Gartner forecasting that by 2022, 70 percent of all software interactions in the enterprise will occur on mobile devices.
Mobility is the ‘new normal’
According to VMware, mobility has already become the “new normal.” Workforces and offices worldwide are becoming integrated through mobile technologies, increasing employee productivity and efficiency.
There has been a huge shift in business processes, with every aspect of an organisation requiring mobile solutions. According to a March 2016 survey from Apperian, more than three-quarters of C-Class executives expect mobility to sharply improve business processes.
There’s no escaping security concerns
Security has always been a major concern for businesses when it comes to implementing enterprise mobility solutions. There is a severe threat to mobile workers, especially those who are utilising BYOD policies and mixing business and social apps.
If you want to become a truly mobile business, security must be high priority. You must be proactive and maintain up-to-date knowledge of threats and supporting users in defending against them.
However, it’s also important for businesses to create mobile policies that will define security parameters for users and IT staff.
Evolving from mobile-first to mobile-only
Organisations are now providing employees with a tablet or smartphone device, instead of a laptop. Technology is constantly evolving and we are in a race to keep up with the latest iterations of mobile tech.
Mobile and tablet devices have become key tools for employees and are fast becoming the only tool they need. And that means for many businesses, it’s not a question of ‘mobile-first’ but of ‘mobile-only’.
Moving forwards in 2017
The smartphone has been dominating the consumer market for more than ten years now, with the enterprise being late to the party. Enterprise mobility is no longer a ‘nice to have’ for organisations, it is a critical and integral part of any digital transformation initiative.
