Upon deep reflection, I wouldn’t view my Entrepreneurial journey as a failure.
These are Top 10 things to consider if you ever wanted to start your own coaching business
- Figure out which model works for you. It is One to many or 1 on1 coaching? It’s definitely harder to scale and asking your ideal clients what they want instead of coming into with what you think could help them. Learning to listen instead of coming as “Expert”.
- Be open to feedback from others but also trust your instincts. There will times where I trusted other people’s opinion over my own.
- You aren’t going to solve all of the problems in the world. I came into with an idea to be able to solve all of my clients problems. The reality is it’s going to take a time and a relationship takes time as people will let down their guard and share what’s really going on after a certain amount of engagement but also leading with vulnerability to set the stage.
- It’s such a rewarding career but be careful not to get too attached to the outcomes. You can only lead a horse to water but you cannot force people to take action.
- Be grateful for the relationships you have. With coaching because it’s so intimate there will be people who will be vouching for you and you can’t take that lightly.
- People come and go from your life. Be grateful that you have good relationships and at the end of the day it’s all business.
- Shout out to Trae, Edwin, Will, and Mike everyone will stuck with me while I was trying to figure things out. It was good to rest for working myself to the bone for 13 years. It was my winning formula but I realize will not get me to the next level. Being able to combine using intelligence with hard work is much better.
- There doesn’t have to be deep meaning to everything. My former boss used to say it sounds like you like have a deeper purpose behind everything. It’s something better to just execute instead of over analyzing the why behind everything.
- Don’t forget to do what makes you happy.
- There are pros and cons to everything. Having flexibility and freedom is nice but everything has an opportunity cost. Did I hurt my career chances by trying something new? No, I feel much more rested and ready to rock it.
That being said. I’m looking to get back into the game. I have been interviewing for Sales Trainer roles and for Account Executive roles for tech companies to have consistent revenue coming in. I will still be pursuing both business but on the weekends and at night.
I realized that it would good for me to think long term instead of what makes me happy in the moment and reacting spontaneously. I’m starting to think about what’s best for the family. I guess this is what they mean by growing up and I look forward to catching up with everyone!
If you know of any interesting opportunities. I am passionate about solving problems and working with people.
