What's the next big creative thing?
I've been asked 'Whats the new design trend' a few times recently... Which got me thinking about inspirations, challenging ideas, breaking rules, pushing boundaries etc etc...
I'm kind of tired of the looking back and digging up the past... I'm not saying we shouldn't be influenced by the past, but the whole letterpress thing, and screen printing etc being such a focus (still now) and all the vintage this, vintage that is so so tired...
WHATS NEW? WHATS NEXT?
I grew up on a healthy diet of designers and musicians pushing boundaries and embracing the modern technology of the time to experiment and explore what they can do with it to make something new... These days we seem more interested in ignoring the future than embracing the tech that surrounds us and exploring how we can use it to make something new...
Hip Hop used the sampler to make new sounds, bands like New Order and others used electronic keyboards and new tech to discover their sound, House music was born via the 808 and its bleeps, designers explored Photoshop to try things out and discover they can do this or that (now there's a filter for that in Photoshop)...
Why did we stop exploring whats on offer NOW and start embracing methods from the past?
Why do I see so many student led projects based around being ANTI digital or social?
Surely these platforms are the fun things to explore and push to see what we can get from them creatively and do something NEW...
