What's Next For Afganistan?

Something has to be done to save lives; the Taliban are brutal extremists who haven’t changed. We should have no illusions, and the Taliban propaganda should not fool us they will brutally deal with their opponents, they would not just kill but also torture and worse, and therefore, everyone should engage in saving those that helped us so that our free societies continue to be free and especially free of terrorism. We must be thankful to those who helped save many lives and peace, freedoms, and prosperity in the U.S. and the E.U., U.K., and allied countries. A problem in our country is that people who usually mind their own business can not fathom how much was done to combat global terrorism and how much this particular group of non-radicalized Afghans contributed to preventing global terror. The problem is that when a complex counter-intel op fails, like in the tragedy of 09/11, it affects everyone’s lives. Everyone can feel it, but when comprehensive and extensive counter-terror operations succeed, as they were successful during the many years of Afghanistan, Iraq, and other campaigns- ordinary people don’t see and don’t understand it and therefore cannot appreciate it enough. Of course, Afghanistan and nation-building attempts were not the optimal solutions as they were marred with corruption and tribalism. Our role in Afghanistan should have been put to rest years ago, or there should have been a permanent solution in terms of the permanent presence of the NATO military and policing force. The fault for the current situation doesn’t lie with any single President. When situations like the one in Afghanistan happen, different parties use it to score political points from all sides of the aisle. That is politics, but we must do our best to stay clear from politics and save those heroes who put their lives on the line to save us, our freedoms, our open societies, religions, and ways of life.
