What's new at TéRAL RESEARCH?

Dear Valued Readers,

Welcome to our October newsletter! This month, we’re excited to announce the publication of our?India Wireless Infrastructure Report. In case you missed it, we recently published the 2nd Edition Open vRAN Report, offering key insights into Open virtualized RAN technologies. ?

India Wireless Infrastructure: A roller coaster RAN market?

Our latest report offers a comprehensive analysis of India’s rapidly changing wireless market. As of June 2024, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have installed nearly 450,000 5G base stations, reinforcing their dominant positions and capturing 74% of India’s cellular subscriber base. Despite this, the market saw a 54% YoY decline in RAN spending during 1H24, confirming the end of the initial 5G deployment cycle. 爱立信 continues to lead the vendor landscape, with 诺基亚 , Samsung Networks , and Mavenir following closely behind. ?

As the market enters a 2-year long transition, we forecast the next big growth phase to begin in 2026, driven by a second wave of network upgrades from Jio and Airtel, along with BSNL and Vodafone Idea ramping up their 4G and 5G efforts. Additionally, the report highlights how Open RAN is expected to capture 2% of the market by 2026, with long-term projections showing significant growth in Open RAN deployments over the next decade.?

Open RAN/vRAN 2nd Edition Report? ?

In case you missed it, we’ve also released the 2nd Edition Open RAN/vRAN Report, which dives into the ongoing transformation of mobile networks through Open virtualized RAN technologies.?Our latest edition reveals subtle yet significant changes in the market. The first half of 2024 saw a 7% year-over-year decline, which was anticipated as the market transitions from early adopters like Rakuten Mobile, Inc. , NTT DOCOMO , and DISH Network to the next wave of Tier 1 CSPs led by AT&T and Vodafone .?

As the ecosystem navigates this lull, the broader open RAN landscape is under pressure, leading to consolidation, restructuring, and even some bankruptcies. However, Samsung Networks has emerged as the front-runner in the global open vRAN market, closely followed by 日本电气股份有限公司 and Fujitsu Network Communications .?

Looking ahead, real acceleration is expected in 2025, when Tier 1 operators like Vodafone join AT&T with large-scale open RAN rollouts. This will usher in a new phase of adoption, positioning open RAN for broader global uptake in the coming years.?As a result, we expect open RAN to account for more than 30% of global RAN sales by 2030.?
