Twitter experiments with new ‘Unmention’ feature

The Twitter safety team have launched their latest test of the ‘unmention’ feature. Available now to select web users, users will now be able to remove themselves from conversations on Twitter that they no longer wish to be a part of.

Twitter had started testing of the initial unmention concept back in June 2021, sharing that the concept could help control “unwanted attention on Twitter” and feedback was welcomed from users.

Nine months later, and Twitter Safety team have shared a short explainer, demonstrating what the Unmention feature may look like and how it can be used. Using the feature means that

·???????Your username is untagged from the original tweet and replies

·???????Users cannot mention you again within the same reply chain

·???????You’ll no longer be notified about updates to the exchange

Feedback so far looks to be very positive, with Twitter users praising the decision and many stating that this is a feature that should have been added a long time ago.

For now, it appears the unmention feature will only be tested on Twitter Web, so we look forward to seeing the feature rolled out on the Twitter App also.?
