In a typical week more than 100 peer reviewed PFAS related articles are published--below is a small sample of recent articles.
PFAS covers many different subject areas--ranging from wastewater treatment to law to fashion.

Special Note--
If you or you know someone who is interested in microplastics/nanoplastics, I recently started a new weekly LI newsletter, "What's New With MicroplasticsThis Week"

Peer Reviewed Research
B?llingtoft, A., et al. (2024). "Quantification of contaminant mass discharge and uncertainties: Method and challenges in application at contaminated sites." J Contam Hydrol 268: 104453.
This study develops and tests a CMD estimation method based on Bayesian geostatistics to quantify CMD uncertainties using data from a control plane perpendicular to the contaminant plume. By combining geostatistical conditional simulations of the spatial concentration distribution with the flow, an ensemble of CMD realizations is generated, from which a cumulative distribution function is derived.

Cheng, L., et al. (2025). "Removal of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in fixed bed anion exchange reactors: Factors determining PFAS uptake capacity and models predicting PFAS breakthrough." Water Research 268.
Anion exchange (IX) processes can effectively remove many PFAS from water. Objectives of this research were to (1) quantify the effects of PFAS structure and background water matrix constituents [dissolved organic matter (DOM) and major inorganic anions (bicarbonate, chloride, sulfate, and nitrate)] on PFAS uptake capacity of IX resins (K-IX), and (2) develop models that predict PFAS breakthrough in packed bed IX columns from PFAS structure and background water matrix characteristics.

Curtzwiler, G. W., et al. (2024). "Influence of Talc in Polypropylene on Total Fluorine Measurements Used as an Indicator of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)." J AOAC Int.
The purpose of this study is to develop a method for determining the contribution of talc inorganic filler to the total fluorine signal. The influence of talc on total fluorine measurements of plastics was evaluated by compounding talc with virgin polypropylene (PP) then measuring the total fluorine concentration using oxidative pyrohydrolytic combustion ion chromatography.

Ellis, A. C., et al. (2025). "Regeneration of conventional and emerging PFAS-selective anion exchange resins used to treat PFAS-contaminated waters." Separation and Purification Technology 355.
Anion exchange resins (AERs) have emerged as a promising separation technology to remediate PFAS-contaminated waters due to their improved selectivities and capacities in comparison to legacy activated carbon adsorbents. ? 2024

Fennell, B. D., et al. (2024). "Destruction of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances in Reverse Osmosis Concentrate Using UV-Advanced Reduction Processes." ACS ES T Water 4(11): 4818-4827.
UV-advanced reduction processes (UV-ARP), characterized by the strongly reducing aqueous electron (e(aq) (-)), have been shown to degrade perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Due to the high cost of PFAS destruction technologies, concentrated waste streams derived from physical treatment processes, such as ion exchange or membrane concentrates, are promising targets for implementation of these technologies.
?
Hammarstrand, S., et al. (2024). "The impact of high exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances and risk for hormone receptor-positive breast cancer - A Swedish cohort study." Environ Int 193: 109140.
Previous studies involving cohorts with high PFAS exposure have not shown an increased risk of breast cancer. Research on PFAS and breast cancer according to hormone receptor status is limited. This study aims to investigate the association between PFAS exposure and hormone receptor-positive breast cancer

Hanvoravongchai, J., et al. (2024). "Clinical, histological, molecular, and toxicokinetic renal outcomes of per-/polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure: Systematic review and meta-analysis." Chemosphere: 143745.
BACKGROUND: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals present in the environment that can negatively affect health. Kidney is the major target organ of PFAS exposure, yet the renal impact of PFAS is not completely understood. Here we review the effects of PFAS exposure on kidney health to identify gaps in our understanding and mark potential avenues for future research.
?
Jeong, C., et al. (2025). "Distribution and seasonal variations of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in streams within the Changwon region." Environmental Engineering Research 30(2).
This study investigates the distribution and seasonal variations of Poly- and Perfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) concentrations in local streams within the Changwon area, aiming to quantify the total PFAS load entering Masan Bay.
?
Li, S., et al. (2024). "Examining Disparities in PFAS Plasma Concentrations: Impact of Drinking Water Contamination, Food Access, Proximity to Industrial Facilities and Superfund Sites." Environ Res: 120370.
BACKGROUND: Most of the US population is exposed to per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) through various environmental media and these sources of PFAS exposure coupled with disproportionate co-localization of PFAS-polluting facilities in under-resourced communities may exacerbate disparities in PFAS-associated health risks.
?
Li, S. L., et al. (2025). "Performance impacts and removal potential of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances in osmotic microbial fuel cell." Separation and Purification Technology 357.
This study investigated the effects of different PFAS concentrations on the wastewater treatment efficiency, electricity generation and water extraction performance of osmotic microbial fuel cells (OsMFC). The results showed that high concentrations of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) had not significantly affected the OsMFC performance.

Lifecycle Study on PFAS Treatment :
A recent independent sustainability study (full Life Cycle Analysis) conducted by?Ramboll, a global environmental consulting and engineering firm, evaluated the use of PlumeStop vs. conventional pump and treat technology to eliminate PFAS. The findings revealed the use of PlumeStop technology would reduce GHG emissions by 98% and would reduce the cost by >64%. This study included a Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) and a Tier 2 sustainability assessment using Ramboll’s SURE model. The overall Sustainability Assessment Score for PlumeStop was 100% higher than the?ex situ, pump & treat alternatives. PlumeStop also exceeded pump & treat in each of the sustainability categories, ‘Environment’, ‘Society’ and ‘Economy’.
