What’s new on the Open Science Data Platform: Summer 2022

The Open Science and Data Platform provides access to science, data, publications and information about development activities across the country that can be used to understand the cumulative effects of human activities and address some of Canada’s key priorities.

It now includes over 143,000 datasets, maps and science publications. Here are some of the highlights from the latest update:


Critical Minerals Exploration

A new datasets on the locations of mines, smelters and refineries, to support better #CriticalMinerals exploration. ?


Overlay this map with research from the Geological Survey of Canada’s Targeted Geoscience Initiative, on advanced mineral exploration models for locations across Canada.


Sustainable Forest Management

This dataset highlights all of the provincial forest management units in Alberta. Try adding it to your map and then overlaying a second dataset on #Alberta’s newly mapped watersheds south of #Calgary for a clear indication of location within each forest management unit.


Fisheries and Oceans

The Fisheries and Oceans Canada Coastal Infrastructure Vulnerability Index helps small craft harbour sites adapt to the effects of #ClimateChange.

Public Health

The Canadian Community Health Survey from Health Canada and Statistics Canada collects information related to health status, health-care utilization and other factors. Try overlaying it with locations of health facilities across Canada.

Earth Observation

The High Resolution Digital Elevation Model product is derived from airborne #LiDAR data and #satellite imagery. Elevation data is crucial to transportation and land use planning, as well as geological and hydrological analyses, among many other applications.

Navigation Safety and Adaptation

The Nova Scotia Government’s Hydrographic Network enhanced dataset offers info on water flow, direction and feature names, in support of navigation safety and adaptation to changing conditions.?

Nova Scotia is the latest province to add datasets to the #OSDP to support #CumulativeEffects discovery. Info available on mining, forestry, agriculture, transportation and more!
