IBM Db2 is an AI-powered database built for the world’s mission critical workloads. Delivering near infinite scalability, real-time analytics, and multicloud support, it accelerates decision making, reins in costs by using a single engine and promotes security for your business data.
We're thrilled to announce three key announcements to IBM Db2.
IBM Db2 12.1.1.0 has arrived
With over 200 new features—from AI-powered query optimization to developer and security enhancements—the IBM Db2 12.1 aims to empower enterprises to support modern data workloads and meet organizational AI and hybrid cloud needs. The availability of modpack 1 builds on the cloud and query optimization capabilities of Db2 12.1. Here are the key highlights of IBM Db2 12.1.1.0:
- pureScale on Azure: pureScale is now available on Azure cloud, as a self-managed deployment.
- pureScale on AWS: NVMe (non-volatile memory express) reservation is supported for fast I/O fencing on AWS.
- Online Index Reorg for pureScale: The Index rebuild during reorg in the pureScale environment no longer restricts access to the underlying table, allowing read and write access during maintenance.
- AI Query Optimizer enhancements: Models are trained faster, more compact, and more accurate.
- Security enhancements: Db2 has added tablespace management authority to allow the creation and management of tablespaces within a storage group.
- Open Data Format (ODF) tables supported on PPCLE: Db2 Warehouse now supports Open Data Format tables on Linux on Power (PPCLE) for Data Lake integration.

Introducing IBM Db2 Bridge
Data movement tools often lack features, functions and resources that organizations need when creating a robust data movement strategy. In contrast, IBM Db2 Bridge enables current and prospective customers to move schema objects and data to IBM Db2, quickly build a development and test environment, and?accelerate migrations and minimize downtime by utilizing IBM Optim High Performance Unload for Db2. It's key features include:
- Preserves the integrity of data by analyzing dependencies. From a source system, the user can select an entire database or a subset of objects.
- Operating system agnostic. By utilizing ODBC connectivity, IBM Db2 Bridge connects directly to source and target systems and is not impacted by operating system differences such as endianness.
- Supports multiple Db2 releases. IBM Db2 Bridge supports Db2 10.5 or later source systems and Db2 11.5 or later target systems.
- Supports Db2-based deployments. IBM Db2 Bridge supports various transactional and analytical workloads and deployment types on premises or on cloud. Note: IBM Integrated Analytics System (IIAS) is supported as a source system only.
- Interfaces. An intuitive user interface makes it easy for the user to navigate through simple operations such as defining the source and target, selecting objects from the source system to move, running the migration job, and displaying results. A powerful command-line interface provides additional options.
- Supports high performance unload. Clients who have entitlement to Optim High Performance Unload for Db2 can enable it through IBM Db2 Bridge.

IBM Db2 pureScale is now available on Microsoft Azure
We are excited to announce the launch of IBM Db2 pureScale on Microsoft Azure, bringing a new level of enterprise-class performance, scalability and availability to cloud-based database solutions. Below are key features:
- Extreme capacity: Scale with near-linear efficiency and high predictability. Deploy and configure a Db2 pureScale instance on Azure using pre-configured T-Shirt sizes in completely automated and fast (in minutes) fashion. If required you can start with small pureScale cluster and add members to your database environment as the need grows, scaling out from the most basic highly available configuration all the way to the maximum supported configuration, which provides extreme processing capacity.
- Continuous availability: During a planned system maintenance or in case of an extreme circumstance, such as when multiple components fail simultaneously, the IBM Db2 pureScale feature is designed to continue processing incoming database requests without interruption.
- Application transparency: IBM Db2 pureScale provides application transparency through automatic load balancing across all active members. Achieve optimal resource utilization at all times, keeping application response times low while reducing the risk and cost of application changes.
