?? Ocean Freight: Due to the Chinese New Year (CNY), ocean freight rates are experiencing notable declines. Transpacific spot rates have decreased for the first time in a month, with Shanghai-Los Angeles rates dropping 5% to $5,228 per 40ft, and Shanghai-New York rates falling 4% to $6,825 per 40ft.

Similarly, Asia-Europe routes have seen continued rate reductions; Shanghai-Rotterdam rates decreased by 3% to $4,231 per 40ft. These trends are attributed to diminished pre-CNY shipping activities and the resolution of potential U.S. port strikes.

?? USA, 2025 - Navigating the Latest U.S.-Canada Tariff Developments

The recent tariff measures announced by both the U.S. and Canada are set to impact businesses across multiple industries. Here’s what we know so far:

U.S. Tariffs – The U.S. has imposed:

  • 25% tariffs on most imports from Canada and Mexico
  • 10% tariffs on Canadian energy resources
  • 10% tariffs on imports from China

These Measures Take Effect February 4, 2025.

Canada’s Response – Canada has introduced a $155 billion tariff package, including:

  • 25% tariffs on $30 billion worth of U.S. imports (food, apparel, motorcycles, cosmetics, pulp & paper) These Measures Take Effect February 4, 2025.
  • Additional tariffs under review on $125 billion worth of U.S. goods

What This Means for Businesses

These tariffs could significantly affect supply chains, increase costs, and create new challenges for importers. Key industries impacted include:

  • Retail & Consumer Goods – Higher costs on clothing, electronics, and food
  • Manufacturing & Automotive – Disruptions due to tariffs on steel, aluminum, and vehicle parts
  • Construction & Energy – Increased costs for raw materials like lumber and energy resources

As this situation evolves, we’re actively monitoring developments and working with our clients to navigate these changes. Stay informed with the latest official announcements:
