What’s New? In CAD

Opinion

#InfinitForm says it reduces D2M (design to manufacturing) process from weeks to minutes though its GPU-accelerated design simulation and optimization software. What does it do? Prismatic shapes from generative design software, an industry first. Apply for early access (ie, beta) at the company’s sparse Web site, https://infinitform.com/.

Sales at CAD vendors aren’t booming, as they once were. Monica Schnitger reports that “This has been an unusually long and somewhat fraught earnings season” for Dassault, Autodesk, Trimble, PTC, and so on.? Others, like Altair and Bentley Systems, are still doing well. You can read her report at https://schnitgercorp.com/2024/08/22/a-wander-through-plmish-earnings-so-far/.

Editions of TurboCAD Mac from IMSI Design

IMSI Design releases updates to some of the CAD software in its stable:

My article on Design Engineering

My latest article at Design Engineering magazine is now live. Read “CAD in the Cloud” at https://issuu.com/glaciermedia/docs/des_september24_cwm_issu/32. I describe:

  • #Rayonapp -- 2D-only drafting
  • #SiemensSoftware's Zel X -- small-scale PLM
  • DesignAir (#CADlovesCloud) -- run any CAD software in the cloud
  • CE's Ensuite Impact 360 -- on-premise 3D collaboration

Legacy car manufacturers having as much difficulty in switching their products to all-electric as legacy CAD vendors have switching their products to all-cloud.
