Electronic mood boards are apparently a thing, and now MattoBoard picked up $2 million to launch their 3D mood board, where you can see the impact of changes — in real-time — from lights and shadows on the colors and textures of items used for interior design.

Sample a mood board (without registration) at https://mattoboard.com/show/hgi8gklk8o?ee=false — hold down the Shift key to 3D swivel the collection.

Surveying a tunnel

It's not often that we come across surveying software specific to tunnels, but that's what Aplitop has. TcpTunnel CAD processes tunnel survey data from total stations collected by the TcpTunnel app, while TcpScancyr does the same from laser scanner data. See more at https://www.aplitop.com/tunnels.

ODA Viewer displaying a STEP file

A reminder that the Open Design Alliance has free viewers and converters:

  • IFC Viewer
  • STEP Viewer
  • (DWG and DGN) Drawings Explorer
  • (All file formats supported by ODA) ODA Viewer
  • (Cloud-based) Web Viewer; requires registration
  • (Between different versions of DWG and DXF) DWG convertor

Access them through https://www.opendesign.com (Products > Free).

A free ODB (on board diagnostics) app for Android is AndrOBD available from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.github.androbd&hl=en-US….

ODB apps let you read fault codes from automobile computers, and reset them -- as well as monitor dozens of operating parameters.

You will need an Bluetooth or Wifi ODB adapter. I carry an OBD adapter in my car, along with the AndrOBD app on my phone, in case the car throws up a fault code (in the form of the Check Engine light coming on) while I am on a trip.

Drawing walls with Canoa

Everything old is new again.

Nicolas Chaulet describes the thinking he went through to add the wall element to Canoa: able to draw parallel lines that intersect correctly, and then be edited to place holes for doors, etc. Read it at https://www.canoa.supply/blog/take-a-deep-dive-into-our-development-process-with-our-cto-nicolas-chaulet.

“If only more journalists and commentators followed these ‘Evaluating Arguments About GenAI’ guidelines, we'd end up with better technology.?

But so many succumb to the thrill of being a vanguardista -- breathlessly reporting on our heroic pioneers, repeating claims at face value.?

Like eunuchs at an orgy, they're delighted just to be in the same room as the action."
