What’s New On The Breakfast “To Go” Front

#Forbes article just released the battle between the fast food chains for claiming dominion over the breakfast domain, BUT, the catch is that none of these offerings even sound or smell of #healthconsciousness. In fact, the entire article was devoted to losses reported, threats to profits and ways to capture the market! Just listen to some of the cutesy names for these new heart attack inventions – The Baconator, Beyond Sausage, Frosty-ccino.
What are we to do with managing busy lives, running on empty fuel tanks (the brain!) that can lead to succumbing to tempting marketing and the aroma from these American favorites? Become aware that the #foodindustry is NOT necessarily your best friend and that convenience can be created with planning and implementing in one’s own kitchen.
Choose foods that are minimally processed and have a short ingredient list. Starches with at least 3 grams #fiber and no more than 6 grams #sugar will help to boost energy while not producing a crash. Protein foods that are at least hormone and antibiotic free are a great start and even better is #grassfed #organic for meats, poultry and dairy foods.
Batch prep for a few days – most foods can remain in the refrigerator without freezing for 2-3 days and if longer, freeze in individual portion sizes.
My Baconator may look like an #Ezekiel English muffin or 2 Real Coconut Tortilla wraps with a free range, organic egg, 2 slices Applegate Turkey Bacon and a wedge of #Lisanatti Rice or Almond Cheddar Cheese, laced with diced tomatoes and arugula and the Beyond Sausage may have oven roasted sweet potato cubes (I make ahead and store in the fridge), 3-4 Applegate Breakfast Chicken or Turkey Links, diced tomato and avocado.
You can enjoy these flavors with very little prep time. Take control of your life!
