STRONGER PROTECTION FOR SENSITIVE DATA

NEW?ZERO TRUST PACKET ROUTING

Security for cloud workloads is a very hot topic. Customers are looking for the best ways to protect data from unauthorized access.

In collaboration with Applied Invention, Oracle proudly announces OCI Zero Trust Packet Routing (ZPR), pronounced “zipper.” ZPR is our first step to improving the separation between network architecture and security and making security expressible in an intent-focused language.

OCI ZPR is a user-friendly solution that empowers customers to define security intent by creating security policies in natural language and vocabulary, making it easier to restrict access to sensitive data through specific access pathways. Administrators write ZPR-based policies in their tenancy to ensure an ADB instance (on a PE) is only accessed by authorized users/resources.

Administrators can secure networks with Zero Trust Packet Routing in three steps:

1. Create and manage security attribute namespaces and security attributes

2. Write policies using security attributes to control access to resources

3. Apply security attributes to specified resources

Note: ZPR applies only for incoming connections when the instance is configured with a private endpoint

FASTER DATA LAKE QUERIES AND SIMPLER MANAGEMENT

NEW?IMPLICIT PARTITIONING FOR EXTERNAL TABLES

Implicit partitioning simplifies the process of creating and managing partitioned external tables into a single command.

Simpler Management

Consider a typical data lake scenario: an external table can be based on thousands of partitions and millions of files. With implicit partitioning, the set-up process is contained within one simple step, and lifecycle management is fully automated—no maintenance or refresh is needed. The partition layout is detected at runtime, i.e., as new files arrive, new partitions are automatically added. Using implicit partitioning guarantees that the data is always up to date at query runtime.

Faster Query Performance

Using implicitly partitioned tables significantly boosts performance because data pruning skips unnecessary partitions and data files.

MULTICLOUD AND HYBRID CLOUD SUPPORT FOR CUSTOMER-MANAGED KEYS

Multicloud/Hybrid Cloud Key Management

Many organizations have security policies that require the use of customer-managed encryption keys. Autonomous Database can be configured to use customer-managed keys for Transparent Data Encryption that reside in the following cloud and on-premise stores:

  • AWS Key Management Service
  • Azure Key Vault
  • Oracle Key Vault
  • OCI Vault

Zero-downtime rotation

When you rotate the customer-managed master encryption key, Autonomous Database generates a new TDE master key. It uses the new TDE master key to re-encrypt the tablespace encryption keys that encrypt and decrypt your data.?This operation is fast and does not require database downtime.
