Hello dear friends,
This is the 18th edition of my newsletter about what's going on in the power sector in Africa. Basically commented articles I get from the press and my connections, with some personal opinion and food for thoughts. Hope you enjoy it.
CAPE VERDE: Goal Is 100 Percent Renewable Energy By 2025. Know more >>
Interesting reading over the power plans for Cape Verde.
AFRICA: to benefit through independent power transmission model. Know more >>
Stakeholders start thinking on a structured approach to bring private investors to the transmission in Africa. Well done!
SOUTH AFRICA: delays decision on LNG imports to next year. Know more >>
LNG import in SA hardly to move forward without strong Government support and commitment. No seeing the private sector taking market risk and ending up having the infrastructure idle for a long period.
SOUTH AFRICA: renewable energy developer gains AfDB support. Know more >>
Biomass power generation is sometimes risky as the feedstock guarantees are normally overestimated but good that some donors take the risk and help the projects to progress.
AFRICA: Akon Receives Global Award for Work In Renewable Energy in Africa. Know more >>
Congrats to Akon for the award and thanks for pushing for Africa's electrification.
RWANDA: renewables sector receives $50m investment. Know more >>
A boost for projects in Rwanda.
AFRICA: Germany backs renewable energy project in Africa with the launch of RLSF, an innovative liquidity facility managed by ATI. Know more >>
A good tool to help projects get to financial close.
AFRICA: African Governments and Off-Grid Energy Industry Take Steps to Accelerate Progress Towards Universal Energy Access. Know more >>
Knowing the importance of Off-Grid on taking electrification of Africa to the next level, it's good to see that the public sector is engaged in taking it seriously.
SENEGAL: VINCI Energies wins the contract to build eight photovoltaic power plants. Know more >>
It includes a major one grid connected and seven small sized hybrid for micro-grids.
NIGERIA: W?rtsil?-built solar power plant will deliver electricity to a million homes. Know more >>
A lot of expectations mid last year with the signing of 14 Solar PV PPAs in Nigeria but no panels on the ground so far. Good to know some projects are making progress.
Now the sales pitch: If you know about power projects in Africa looking for a co-developer and equity partner please send them my way.
That's all for today. Keep well, keep energyzed.
