What's needed to do the right thing
DO THE RIGHT THING
Almost every consumer product today contains software. Almost every industry providing these products today, be it mobile phones, gadgets or bigger things, have learned to test the software on the hardware configurations available to the consumer, before deploying the software at scale. The car industry should do the same.

DO THE MATH
There is no shortcut to quality. There is no good excuse to a consumer not experiencing high quality after paying a premium price. We have to test all software we deploy in all different hardware configurations affecting the software runtime execution. What size are we looking at? Let’s do the math. We have maybe 10 cars in our future portfolio with 7x5 variants on each. Upgrading the hardware once per year and deploying software for 4 years yields 1400 fully automated test-rigs for software that we urgently need to build. A few football fields full of test-rigs, still smaller than a conventional high-speed test track built for a use-case becoming more and more obsolete.

THE PHANTOM IS DEAD LONG LIVE THE PHANTOM
After an exhaustive search for our permanent CDO-solution, in an ever-moving world around and within ourselves, we now choose to nominate a full-time interim solution to not lose speed in our transformation. As of today, it is your job Tobias to lead the Digital team and on me to come back to you all with the permanent solution.?
