What's In A Name?

Over the years I've held multiple positions with different titles. Some had "manager" or "senior" or similar adhered to the front or back of a vague position description. Usually a role was part of it, like "consultant", "analyst", or "designer", with sprinkles of distinction like "fulfillment", "development", or "solution". None of that really defined my role. No matter what the organization or department, my job has always been to solve problems: the company's problems; the department's problems; the system's problems; or, the customer's problems. Sometimes the customer's customers' problems.

Today, as a voiceover talent, I work for myself, and I see others in similar positions use words like proprietor, originator, or owner. (I'm more partial to Big Cheese, Grand Poobah or Bossman). But my job is still to solve problems. Different problems, but still problems.
