What's in a name? The design & branding exercise @Uppcoming

Every once a while, there comes something you put your heart and soul into. Uppcoming is one such project for me.

Uppcoming is a community for movie lovers to find and share their movie experiences. This quick post is all about the design and branding exercise I’m doing for Uppcoming.

I firmly believe that experience & design play the most vital role in making a product wow-able.

Branding 101

What’s in a name?

Quite a lot. I couldn’t think of a better name for a community that discusses upcoming movies at its core: Uppcoming.

You can uppvote movies, find fellow movie uppers – on a community built to discuss and share about uppcoming movies.

The visual identity

And what would associate someone with movies? A movie ticket seems to be a good idea. Before we went digital, the memory of holding a movie ticket would be fondly remembered by most of us.

With this in mind, after iterating over many rough sketches, and a few finalists, Uppcoming’s mascot – Tickety was born.

Elements of Interface Design

The next important part is to design the interface elements for the apps. It has to closely match the design language of the brand.

No Data (Zero UI) designs at Uppcoming are neat and concise
